Houses in astrology are recognized as stages in a cycle. There are twelve houses ruling different departments of life. The sign in the house applies to the mode of action to the affairs of that house. The sign on the cusp of the house and any planet or planets within that house shows how we deal with the conditions of the house.


The First House

This is the ascendant or rising sign. It is a dharma house. It is how we are motivated. This is the area that describes our first impression. This is our directed effort. We move forward by developing the blueprint of this house to move forward in life.


The Second House

The second house is connected to our prosperity. This is how we enjoy our environment and how we gain material things. It is how we acquire our "daily bread". It also tells the kind of response we get from life. How we are rewarded in life.


The Third House

The third house is how we gain access and communicate. It is the mental house. It is our conversation, how our questions are formed, our ideas. It is how we put observations and ideas together and using the results to our advantage.


The Fourth House

The fourth house is where we hold our feelings. Our comfort and how we feel secure. It is receptive, nurturing and self protective. Mother, mothering, domestic issues and "feeling" at home.


The Fifth House

The Fifth house is a "life purpose" house. It is our creativity, self expression, self esteem, confidence. Play is here. Love affairs.


The Sixth house

The sixth house is the house of chores. It is where we determine what is useful and what can be discarded. Apprenticeship is here. Routine and practice is here. It is how we solve our problems.


The Seventh House

This is opposite of the Ascendant (first house) and is called the Descendant. Here is our partnerships, relationships, "significant other". It is the house of compromise or "give and take". Here is where we respond to the needs of others. Marriage.


The Eighth House

Here lies "death and taxes" . It is also the place that we eliminate of the parts of ourselves we no longer require. Transformation. This place hold joint accounts with the problems and benefits.


The Ninth House

This is the house of philosophy and beliefs. Long journeys. It is where we explore what is beyond familiar territory or what is considered mundane.


The Tenth HouseThis is called the Midheaven. It is where our success, reputation and career lie. It is how we benefit from society. Our "calling" is here.

The Eleventh House

This is where our hopes and dreams lie. Here is where we can turn our dreams into reality. Altruistic and humanitarian goals are here. What is unique, eccentric and non-conformity lies here.


The Twelfth House

Self undoing, anxieties, confinement, self-deception, troubles and trials through ignorance. All that is within us, yet, unfulfilled. Our imagination lies here. It is up to us to use our vision and courage to cut through the darkness here.
